U9's training ground work helps to see them to victory against S&L

2 matches.
Wellingborough 5 vs 1 S&L
Wellingborough 5 vs 2 S&L

S&L brought one team and we had 13 players, so it was going to be very much a case of fielding mixed teams with loads of substitutions. Every player had their highs and it was a very solid performance from the entire squad.

It was a very pleasing start to the match. After having spent the last two weeks training to run straight and knock holes in the defence, Harry Dolan did just that. He received the ball from the start and knocked the defence onto their backsides to score within the first 15 seconds. So too did Jake Raines who had to be held off by three opposition players to prevent him from scoring on a good debut. That move resulted in a try after Jake offloaded the ball to provide Jacob Mackenzie-Watson with the easiest of his tries for the morning.

We've also been working on our defensive line speed and there was improvement there too. Still a bit of work to do on turning defence into attack by pressuring the ball carrier, but we are moving in the right direction.

Daniel Watson and Boris Pateman were very effective in their attacking play and were a handful for the opposition. Jacob Mackenzie-Watson and Harry Dolan were particularly industrious today, both of whom did a lot of very good work in attack and defence.

It was great to see Carter Bloor and Ewen Davies getting some good yardage with the ball in hand.

Dylan Black, Kian McGowan, Bobby Phillips, Daniel Reid, Darrell Gilkes and Evan Blount all had a lot to do with this victory also, as all 13 players played as a team and supported each other. You all had a big game today and got back to winning ways after a rare defeat in our last fixture.

Well done guys. Keep up the good work.

Off to Bletchley next Sunday. Please confirm your attendance.
